Well 2 out of 3 isn't bad! Maybe you could get your grandchildren into the backyard to get a look at nature? Anyone know of any games or other activities that might hold their interest? I know Ladell plays a neat nature-based game with the…

So true, as we all learn by example. Anyone have suggestions of "outdoor games" or activities that can help parents give children adventures in their own yard?

Fireworks Have the Word FIRE in Them

Here in the arid mountains and high desert of Washington State, fire risk level is on high. There have already been some brush and wildfires in the area. Some of these fires have been caused by 4th of July fireworks. If you see or hear news about fire...wouldn't it be a good time to mention to your kids about the damage of forest fires (not to mention fire in general)? Smokey the Bear would appreciate it, I'm sure.See More

Happy 4th of July!

What a great time to get kids outside - celebrating the independence of this diverse nation! While you're sitting down under the night sky waiting for the fireworks to begin, please take a moment to point out something of interest to your little one. How about a constellation, a star, or a planet? Have you ever noticed how different trees look at night? Isn't it neat how some fireflies shed a greenish light and others are whiter? Did you know that the Inland Northwest United States doesn't have…See More

What do you think about when you go outside?

What do you smell?

What do you hear?

These are fun things that parents can ask their kids about to make being outside a fun time.

A special thanks to Lauri Lee for inspiring the use of the senses in outdoor video shorts!
